Electric Toasters

I own a Breville electric toaster which had been recommended on this site. It is very good except that it produces what I would call 'baked' toast. The best toast I ever experienced was that made at a camp fire with the bread put onto a forked stick and placed close to the hot embers of the fire. The bread would be quickly toasted on the outside and then turned to toast the reverse side. Delicious! To duplicate this in an electric toaster, the bread must be toasted a very high temperature for a very short time. Any recommendations?

I think the best toast i've had is from those Commercial Conveyor Toasters but they're pricey

They certainly would be.

You know the sort I mean? The ones at hotels where you can change the speed of the conveyor belt and heat of the unit depending how toasted you want ur toast.

It wastes electricity but try running your toaster 3 or 4 times in a row before putting the bread in. This preheats the toaster and makes the bread toast a lot quicker, hopefully giving you the result you want.

Try toasting it in the grill if you can.

^^my toaster's instructions warn against running toasting cycles too close together to prevent over-heating!

Mine probably does, ginge, but I've always done it. My toaster is at least ten years old - surely it would just cut out if it overheated?

I agree that the very best toast is that done on an open fire.

I love the thick chunky bread toasted on fire. Not the sliced rubbish ou get these days.
We used to buy the bread specially for toasting sometimes for a treat.
