Who or what dictates fashion?

Guess you could have a few answers here really, designers would be an obvious one, setting the seasons for high street to follow. But I suppose that culture has some role in it too, especially music.

People dictate fashion ultimately. Very rarely do catwalk fashions translate to the street without radical adjustment, so it's people themselevs. Ever noticed that the very coolest people rarely follow the latest fashions but have developed their own "look". You'll always get the chavish slaves to the latest whatever that some Soap star is wearing but I think most kids have woken up to how naff that actually is and are evolving their own styles to match their personalities.

I would call that style not fashion. I love people who dont follow the trends and dress for them and not others. I think you are right about the hideous clothes we see in shops and on celebs these days. More people should have their own minds!!

I've just been to the city centre to buy a suit .I noticed that some people were wearing leg warmers with ballet shoes..who started that look? Whilst i'm here, why is the womens' clothes section always 10 times bigger than the mens'?

And why do the mens loo's always seem to be closer than the womens?
Why do mens clothes seem to be on the ground floor when the womens are at the top floor
Why do men walk straight in the loo when women have to q?

I think you should have said mens ground floor,womens the rest of the shop!
If you want to put-up with urinals,then you can walk straight in with pleasure.

The clothes designers, the clothes manufacturers, the models and the fashion magazines who promote them, all of whom are trying to make money out of airheaded individuals who've got their financial priorities in the wrong place.

If a lot of people today were putting their spare spending money into pensions instead of fasions which change every few months, they'll be avoiding a poverty stricken old age while the fashionistas who got rich on the profits of their spending will be relaxing on their yachts and their villas in the Mediterranean !!
