Constant Calls From *beneficial*

Despite blocking a number of calls from a Cardiff area code saying they are calling from 'Beneficial' they still keep calling me from different numbers. The caller states that if I confirm who I am they will take me off their records and I won't receive calls any further.

I refuse to confirm my details and ask them where they got my number from. I also try to ask them who they are and what they want from me apart from to confirm my details and they hang up. The caller always seems to have the same far eastern accent.

The numbers show up as potential fraud on my mobile but as I said I have tried blocking them but they always call using another number.

Does registering with TPS work?

I've had mixed results using TPS. Write down the number and provided its a mobile no. keep calling them back every few minutes or better still sign them up everywhere online using the number you obtained.

Had a call this morning from an ambulance-chaser about my "recent car accident that wasn't my fault" - I told her I don't drive or own a car. She said she would take my number off their list - first time that ever happened. I'm on TPS, not sure if it stops many calls.

Just because a call comes from a Cardiff number it doesn't mean that the caller is actually in Cardiff. There are services, such as this one, which can provide people with 'virtual' phone numbers anywhere in the country:

Further, even without using such services, it's possible to 'spoof' Caller ID numbers:

The calls that you're receiving are more likely to be coming from (say) Chennai than from Cardiff. You're certainly not the only one getting them:

As they're probably coming from outside the UK (and they'll be coming from people who're not bothered about rules and regulations anyway) it's unlikely that there's anything you can do about them. Sorry!

TPS is no use when dealing with calls from abroad.

Block the number on your phone each time they call.

The numbers are often similar - if you have some kind of caller display or it's on your mobile just don't answer. That's what I did in similar circumstances and eventually they gave up.

I guess GDPR means jack *** to callers from abroad using UK numbers.

I'm constantly blocking them and I've had 3 calls this week alone.

Tigger, get a call blocker phone. Then you will have no unwanted calls.

The calls are on my mobile, and from what I have goggled, the call blocker phone is only for landlines. I rarely give out my landline number these days.
