Gp Receptionists
29 Answers
When I dropped my partners script of a surgery today, asked if Jen could have Pneumonia jab, receptionist said no without an appointment which was a week away for an assessment, so rang surgery from my car outside, and spoke to nurse and she's getting it tomorrow. Flu jab will not protect against everything.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.wolf63, at the time it was extreme, I didn't ring GMC on a whim, we had been getting fobbed of for quite a while, and just couldn't get GP's at that particular time to do anything positive or constructive, but that was a while ago when the practice team bought out the retiring GP and owner when he retired and changed to many things at once IMO.
Yes emmie can be a bit one sided sometimes and although the receptionists can view all your medical history on a screen, it can be easy to quote data protection act. I have felt the need to come to give receptionists a bit of support when they were trying to give an unruly man some perfectly reasonable advice.
I wonder why there are notices in every medical establishment saying that abuse won't be tolerated. Why do they think they're going to get abused? If they do their job correctly, then there won't be any abuse, will there?
I phoned at 08.30 for an appointment and was told there wasn't any that day. I'd have to ring back the following day or book online. My neighbour asked me if I would call in at the same doctors' to get a prescription for him, that same day. I went in at 2.15 and the place was absolutey deserted. No one waiting, no-one on reception, no-one visible in the office behind reception. A deathly silence all round. I thought I'd walked in during a fire practice. Eventually someone appeared, so I asked why I couldn't have an appointment earlier, seeing as there was no-one in now. She said she didn't know. She wasn't on the phones earlier. Good innit? Our wonderful NHS. I wouldn't mind but very rarely go to the doctors. Very rarely. Ah well. Cest la vie.
