There isn't really a solution unfortunately. You can just try your best to keep in touch with both friend's.
sometimes people need a time out, perhaps she has some personal issues that she has not shared with anyone (like an illness or financial matter) there are times in life where we all retreat for one reason or another, it can be therapeutic. some friendships can be draining especially if you are on the end of someone who continually needs advice and support and they rely heavily on you. This is where time outs are inevitable. If in doubt, come right out and ask her.
Tell him to man up - sh-t happens. The earlier the age at which you learn this, the easier it is to stomach when it recurs - which it will.
