I am trying to lose a little weight because I have my summer holidays coming up. Each evening I have to admit I do enjoy one glass of wine but was shocked to learn it is quite high in calories. Can anyone recommend a drink that I could enjoy after a hard days work but without so many calories? Know it would be best just to have no alchohol at all but it is my little treat! thanks
problem is that the alcohol itself adds most of the calories to wine, beer, vodka etc. So if you you really insist on the alcohol you will have difficulties finding a low cal drink. and one glass of wine per day is actually healthy, by the way.
Depends on your preference but according to the Scottish Slimmers book I've got here goes:
Beers and lagers: Courage light,Heineken,McEwan's Pale and Skol.
Ciders and perrys:
Babycham
Fortified wines: sherry
Liqueurs: Advocaat, Cointreau, Drambuie,Tia Maria
Spirits: Bacardi, Brandy,Gin, Vodka, Whisky.
There are others but I've listed the most popular brands.
Mixers are the real problem...and quantity of course.
Is it white wine you enjoy? If so why not try it with soda water mixed in? Other than that LCL is a good choice (Low Calorie Lager) if you're into lager of course!
Dry white wine is only 70 cals a glass (if you measure out 125ml) Mix it with soda to make it go further. Or how about a vodka, a splash of lime and soda? In the overall scheme of things, 70 cals isn't going to make much difference. Just cut out the caffeine and drink water the rest of the day if you are worried. And you could always run upstairs a few times after drinking your glass!
i lost 2 stone when i quit drinking, but i was drinking very heavily every day - if that's all you drink booze wise then don't worry about it too much, just do ten mins moron the treadmill (or similar). good luck! xx
