There is a drink in Goa called Fenny (for Men - more refined) and Urak (for women - a little coarser in taste as I understand it). It's made from Cashew nuts by monks. Goes lovely with coconut milk apparently, and Lime juice. You probably shouldn't miss out on it. My partner's family are from Goa originally and have a house there so travel frequently to and from. Never heard that they needed to take anything with them like that and whenever they bring Fenny back it is always in random bottles of other spirits so I think Whiskey etc are pretty readily available over there too, especially in hotels. Enjoy your trip, I'll be there myself for the first time in early 2007. Can't wait! Oh and don't forget dutyfree in Bahrain/Dubai if you have a stopover, it'll be cheaper than from this end.
There are plenty of booze shops along the roadside shops, its much cheaper to buy it there, a bottle of Smirnoff Red last year was 4.50, not even worth buying it in Bahrain and having to carry.Yuo can also buy in supermarkets. If you go into PANJIM the capitol their booze shops near the Nike & Benneton shops stock all brands possible, the only thing I cant get there is Amarula they have never heard of it. Wacky baccy is in abundance too, indulge mostly by the over 60s !

PS forgot to say I think that Fenny & Urak are positively disgusting, its definately an aquired local taste [ I am also married to a Goan] but the Portugese port & Madeira wine sold all over Goa are definately worth a try.
Sit and watch the world go by with a nice drink beside you, its a nice slow & easy pace out there.
