I see British gas have got their winter TV add in full swing, with their appealing boiler breakdown cover. All looks and sounds great on TV until you try and read their terms and conditions that they supply on line. There must be a get out condition round every corner, for them to charge you on top of your monthly payment.
The main one being is that, any part that( they consider) to have failed due to sludge in the system may not be covered under the contract.
Well, considering that most central heating systems have a certain amount of sludge in them, your contract with them ( should you have one) is not worth a dot, And leaves them in a position to hit you with a extra charge in most cases for a repair.
TC, British Gas, as a business, are typically oversized and out of touch. Not easy to find, I know, but a good local team (even with callout charges), will give you a decent personal service. They would care about their reputation.
None in my system either due to inhibitor filled system. Do not use Boiler breakdown cover. Have a 'tame' professional boiler/plumber who comes out once a year to service my system. He's not found anything wrong for the past three years. Cost effective? Yes!
Yep they sing a good tune on TV, chap next door to me been waiting over a week for them to come back and fix it, after the first visit, and not even got to a bad winter yet. With their so called thousands of engineers.
