//The ideology is that you must not misgender people. That is if a man says he is a female you MUST accept that and say she and such like. // That is pretty much how it stands in the UK as far as I see but I am a little incredulous (doesn't take much) to see the word 'queer' bandied about on some of the links. I honestly thought this was a taboo word, bit like the 'n' word....

And to think, some people think it’s the young people that are gullible
I don’t think this scenario is improbable in Canada. After all they have laws that say you MUST speak certain words. The ideology is that you must not misgender people. That is if a man says he is a female you MUST accept that and say she and such like.
I give up - believe what you want.
It’s fake (or at least very highly skewed) news - originating from a right wing site with some very nasty axes to grind.
according to pinknews, the "rainbow poppy" isn't a thing
I think the problem is Dave some want it to be true so we can have a 'what's the world coming to' thread that rumbles for days.
Why would a standard poppy not already include "lgbt" people, anyway?
So ... the Poppy wars of 2019 have begun.
// I find it quite extraordinary and,if true, outrageous.//
if true

Canadians honour their war dead as much as we do
In Newfoundland - then a dominion, they even named a university after them ( MUN - memorial university of newfoundland.

I think troll is pulling a few tosers there.
( leading them around the garden with a ring in their nose - as we used to say in the fifties)
no point in the anyway pixie, its not true
// according to pinknews, the "rainbow poppy" isn't a thing//
yup
the poppy is the red flanders poppy and was not used before the Great War. The profusion of poppies and then there were none representing the slaughter that went on.
Some even take off their poppies at midday 11 Nov (too soon) to represent the young age at which the soldiers died

Same symbolism is used in Japan ( who of course everyone knows fought on the allied side in the great war) - the cherry blossom represents their war dead as it falls in full bloom and represents the sacrifice of youth with their lives yet to come

having a rainbow poppy is like having a rainbow baby jesus innit ? Or the blessed virgin the Queen of LGBT Heaven? altho the patience of the holy mother, I m sure she would wear her crown with pridde
With a name like Stonewall what can one expect ?

(Huffpost seems to be taking the Mickey re privacy. So it's also off the visit list.)

There only needs to be one version of the poppy, it has a black centre and red petals. Unsure why folk feel a need to reject it.
// There only needs to be one version of the poppy,//
yeah the flanders poppy is red n black

we are in the realm of celeBrating the Battle of Britain with a model spitfire with three wings - or a FW painted in RAF colours. Or Jesus ( not a baby this time, oh no not that! ) nailed to a mattress because the cross looked terribly uncomfortable .....
Woofgang @ 14.41, I’m aware of that. I read the thread. My point stands. Rainbow poppies are about LGBT. Remembrance Day isn’t.

Hey Ho. That's what happens when a minority wish to rule the roost. Us older people can't keep up with the in words, that are suddenly offensive ,and out words. I suppose 'Nancy Boy' is still acceptable isn't it? That word was used in Hornet Squadron (BBC Production don't ya know.) I assume it must be pucker to use.
spath @14:49

\\From the article it seems Natalie went out of her way to defame the rainbow poppy. The issue isn't the rainbow poppy, the issue is Natalie going out of her way to defame the rainbow poppy when she could have just wore her red one without forcing her opinion down peoples throat.//

what like the LGBT brigade constantly do.
The LGBT poppy doesn't even exist. Sexualising the war is immoral and wrong and is some sadistic way to prioritise your agenda. The red poppy covers all those who fought in WW1 and WW2, LGBT or not.

Anyhow.. the rainbow poppy is a myth, a legend. It's not sold by the The Royal British Legion.

There is a red poppy for people, a purple one for animals.

All covered.
But the amount of Cis and straight people and even some LGBT people getting so vexed over this shows how anyone will use a normal thing to try abuse and cause hostility towards a community.

Last year it was Muslims. This year it's LGBT. What next year? Disabled maybe?
A little bit of digging would’ve revealed the truth behind why this student was suspended. The reason why this wasn’t mainstream news is likely because it wasn’t really a story.
