If this swab-test is negative, one does not harbour such Staphylococcus varieties.

B_U_T, I am due to go to a clinic, where there are two-bedded rooms.
--Could one be 'infected' by a patient who was tested positive and openly sneezes and/or is unhygienic?
(With colds and sneezes more commonplace at this time of year, one is obviously more prone to such modes of infection.)

I don't know where you are, but I can't see a hospital putting you, or anyone else in any kind of danger.
My father in law had MRSA and was in a single room. We were all allowed to go and visit him, provided we wore white coats, but my very pregnant daughter was not allowed in the room.

In Holland, every patient is tested for MRSA prior to hospital admission. Those testing positive are placed into isolation until they are fit enough ... to go under the knife.

They certainly are in our local hospital. Nevertheless, that doesn't mean they won't contract MRSA - and they don't need to be sharing a room to do it. It isn't spread through coughs and sneezes like a cold - it's spread through open wounds and can be carried on pretty much anything the wound might come into contact with. My husband tested negative. That didn't help him though.
