my teenage son has some favourite jeans. The kind that look old and worn, but are actually new. He loves them and wears them continually. I have bought him two pairs of jeans from asda but he's not keen on them.
I told him we could age them and make them look "cool" or "bad" or whatever the latest terminology is!
But now I don't know how to do it! Can I just slit them with a knife? Will bleaching work? I vaguely remember doing something similar in my youth but can't remember how!!

pumice stones are what my mum used on mine years ago, they fade the colour and you can also rub a hole with them, looks more authentic than knife slits, or check out the gap sale as they do new, 1 year wash, 5 year, 7 year and 10 year jeans, made to look different ages.

Hi crisgal, try these sites:

http://www.wikihow.com/Rip-Your-Own-Jeans

it's also best to plan where the rips etc will be, so draw out a basic jean shape on some paper, marking where the knee etc is, and draw in holes, rips, slashes bleached spots.

Also, check out websites with ready-to-buy distressed jeans to see which ones look best and where the rips look good!

Hope this helped, Lou xx
ooh and also, try different techniques on an old pair of jeans that you don't wear anymore to test out what looks good, it's a good idea to do this before getting carried away on your son's nice new jeans and then realising either the hole's gone wrong OR there's no denim left! xx
