My Grandson is going into the RAF as A 16 year old apprentice shortly and the wife just said it will nice seeing the boy come through the door on leave in uniform just like his grand parents
but I've told her I don't think they allow it now a days on safety reasons
And if that's true how ever did we get in this state , I can still see my big Brother come through the door on leave from his ship in his uniform with his kit bag on his shoulder after serving on the small Sub chases in the Atlantic and the Russian Convoys for six years and how proud I was
We should to be ashamed

In cork in nointeen nointeen ( oirish see?)
they were shooting men in uniform and so they wore civvies or mufti - yes mufti is what you wore if you dressed down
and they um went on shooting them
and so .... the rumour grew up that they were carting military people around in ambulances
and so they started shooting up the ambulances too !

happy lot the Irish

yes of course the Orig poster is correct in that dress makes a statement - semiology - the science of signs and dress of course send a sign

the beast of bolsover apparently sent a sign by wearing sports jacket and red tie in the House ( you know- the House) Not because he was a land owner no no no - because it was er mufti and he was making a point without speech ( wh he also did) that he was a man of the People

yeah sports jacket - ho hum

oh and you lot were all ridiculing Diane Abbott the other day for the vagaries of dress ( wrong shoes = mad and not fit to govern )
probably true in that case....

the quet awful Gerald Nabarro wore morning dress on some days in the commons - and I recollect that some MPS turned up in Mao jackets to make a point in the late sixties ( labour budget was marxist I think)

god I remember the medium but not the message
Ah Colchester. Home of the dreaded military nick as well as a Garrison Town.
Thank you Peter
I didn’t say Rockrose was wrong. Simply that I don’t think it was a general rule that far back. If you read the link PP supplied you’ll see that the directive was lifted and re-imposed following the murder of Lee Rigby.
