Do You Remember Your Holidays When You Were Young?
35 Answers
I can remember going to Towyn in Wales to a caravan site. Having to cross a railway line by a footbridge, as a steam train went under and blew its steam at me. Terrifying!
We also went to Cornwall can't remember where but it began with a P!
Young brother aged about 6 went into the sea. Terrible currents and he got swept out to sea.. luckily dad ran out into the sea and saved him. Unfortunately brother suffered with convulsions for a long time afterwards.
What do you remember about your early holidays?

one of the most memorable was going to Switzerland with the school. All the way by train, some slept in the luggage racks as there wasn't enough room..
going skiing for the first time was fun, also we sneaked out of the hotel one night by shimmying down the drainpipe and off to the local disco. coming back from said disco we bumped into the science master who gave us a lecture and banned us from going skiing the next day, happy time...

I have fond memories of all our holidays. One time we went to Butlins. I capsized the boat me and my dad were in. That was the first time he ever swore at me :-) He called me a little b'stard just as he went in the water. It was so funny.
Same holiday, I think it was a Drake, took a liking to my dad and attacked us if we went near him.
Besides school trips we mainly just went back to Ireland.

Kessingland to a caravan site where Granny Smith (who was lovely) lived in her house, the Wave Crest (beach side cafe) and hours away from parents with other children up in the dunes with a picnic (sweets!) and hours in the sea...even in rain! Nothing much except fields around the site! Oh and no amusement arcades....and we had a great time!
Mum and Dad took us to Butlins in Wales a lot and we once went to Pontins, but didn't like it and I remember we came home early ! We also went to the Isle of Man for holidays and many days out to Blackpool and Southport. Good times. We had a dog Whisky who got swept out to sea on a day trip out and I remember us all standing on the beach screaming at him to turn around and come back to us and miraculously, he did ! Lived to a ripe old age.
We used to go to my Mum's parents in the south east and I hated it because I suffered from car sickness. Once or twice we went via Bournemouth and Eastbourne - that was grim as well. I remember staying in a typical seaside B&B with the creaky dark wood wardrobe in the corner and the sink in the room. Never went anywhere else as we lived on the Devon coast so didn't need to go far.
Oh Caran that question brought back memories. My Grandma owned eight caravans at Towyn on The Golden Gate and on the Millers Cottage sites and we went every year. Because she let them out we only got to go on the last week of the season when nearly everything was shut so we did that walk over the bridge and along the beach every day. Mr BD and his family went to Anglesey every year so he was probably on one of those trains that blew steam at you.
