Australia's Stance On Immigrants Arriving By Boat

Australia are refusing to accept immigrants arriving in rickety boats. I have read two articles on this but I am blowed if I can find the second one.
Anyway, since they started giving them the option of settling in Papua New Guinea, boats have miraculously stopped heading to Australia.
Should European countries adopt this policy?
What are your thoughts on the subject?

All this concern shown towards some who are prepared to risks their own lives as well as their family's lives.

I hope this was a joke. Having visited the islands (long before they became "famous") on my way somewhere farther south I can attest to the fact that there is plenty of room.
Whether the migrants would be happy there (and I can hazard a guess that they most certainly would not) is not the point. Infrastructure and services on the islands just about cope with the numbers there (under 3,000). But more importantly why on earth this invasion of foreigners should be foisted upon a group of people who are more supportive of the UK and its values than just about any other group of 3,000 people anywhere on earth is a little hard to fathom.

I was watching the news last night. The reporter interviewed one of the survivors from one of the latest boat arrivals. When she was asked where she wanted to go (and I bet this is no surprise to anyone reading this) she said "London. I know they will look after me there."

I watched a news story last night where a reporter was touring an immigrant settlement camp in Italy.It was formerly a US married quarters base set in an orange grove.I was waiting for the question ,"where would your final destination likely to be" but I guess the reporter (British) was briefed not to ask that one . :-(

What exactly would you like to see, 7up? Open borders, no borders? No property rights, perhaps? Leaving aside the poor, downtrodden people of our former colonies who would welcome us back like a shot. Lots of things were wrong and unfair throughout history and still are today. We can't cure all the world's ills.

Africa is awash with natural resources yet nobody there seems able to make use of them for the benefit of all the population. Europe has poured untold amounts of cash into the continent in an effort to alleviate the squalor in which they live, but to no avail.
Are you suggesting that to atone for the sins of our forefathers we should now provide free board and lodging for anybody who wants to settle here? Or should we allow all Africans to move to Europe and shift all the Europeans to Africa. After a few generations (when the Europeans have developed Africa decently and Europe has descended into squalor) perhaps we could all move back again! Or maybe the Europeans might not quite like that idea (having spent considerable time and effort knocking Africa into shape and knowing that Europe had descended into mayhem). Perhaps we have an island we can put them on. there would be a mix of tradesmen etc so they could build accommodation, grow food etc. they would soon have a community. This is what happened to freed slaves after the US Civil War, they were sent to Sierra Leone, which is why the capital is called Freetown.
