Having said that though, my cats have often scavenged the remains of chicken legs (etc) from my kitchen bin and they've never come to any harm.

Around 60 years ago I had a dog which in its 6 or so years was regularly fed cooked bones. Its droppings did not contain any fragments (they crumbled away disintegrating into soil additive and disappearing to the naked eye). Given current warnings, modern dogs must have evolved some sort of disadvantage earlier dogs did not have. Darwin wins again aver creationists.
