Have an automatic fine slapped on them if it was alcohol infused ?
Obviously not those who are innocent of any fracas but get hurt, but those that cause trouble and put the services under strain should have to pay for the treatment they receive from hospitals
i said the same a while ago, and for the most part those who responded were in agreement. Though there were dissenters who argued that those may be caught up in a punch up without being remotely responsible. I think those who get off their faces on drink, drugs, shouldn't end up in A&E. But drunk tanks and charged a nominal sum for their treatment.
The "slapping on of automatic fines" has never worked well. Fixed Penalties work OK for many minor motoring offences but to impose penalties on drunks and anti-social miscreants is unlikely to produce much in the way of results. The penalties are unlikely to be paid, the matter will have to proceed to court and any advantages will swiftly be lost.
Nical I fully understand that such fines could never be implemented but these people that cause trouble and hurt people and themselves , get treat and are often abusive to those helping them, annoys me deeply
Me too,Bobbisox. I responded because of your 'accompanied by a policeman' remark, I felt that wasn't as significant, clear-cut as you might have thought.
But maybe the intoxicated individual with the injury was the victim of another. And you want to charge them on top ? No; running such a scheme would cost more than it was worth, even if you could find a fair way to implement it.
Isn't it the lack of social care that is stretching our NHS? People being well enough to be discharged but their home isn't suitable. Or they lack the carers to help them live independently. Or cannot afford to pay for care.
