Dashcam Replay

I am trying to play card out of dashcam but on my computer it is coming up can’t play as this file is unsupported. What do need for it to play anyone help here. Files just say MOVI4749 following on in numbers but don’t play.

Is there a dot at the end of MOVI4749 and then a few letters?

right click on the file, then click properties and tell us the full file name especially the bit after the dot it's probably MP3/4 if so you can read with VLC media player.

TBF VLC will play most fomats.

I have VLC on this computer how do I use it please

If you look at the manual for your dashcam you will probably find a link to some software you can download. VLC will probably play it but the recommended software will have extra information on it eg, it may show the track of the vehicle on a map (if you have GPS on your dashcam), the speed you were travelling etc. Some dashcams display such things as part of the saved picture, some need special software.

Ok will have a look. Not sure make will look in car only took card in to try. Don’t know how to try it in VLC

I suspect you right click on the file and select ‘open with’ and then ‘VLC’ in the drop down menu.

If you are displaying the contents of the card, right-click on the file and "Open with" > VLC media player.
Alternatively, start VLC then, under "Media", Open file.

Yes I did right click on the file selected open with VLC .
Then VLC opened but nothing played just that cone icon in middle of the screen for VLC tried all will have to leave for now but will try later. Thanks for all the help

Computers (for some strange reason) are default set not to show file extensions. To show them type ‘show file extensions’ in the bottom left search box. Assuming you’re on W10.

ZM, it's what we call the MOCS finishing school in programming circles. Basically any software will come with the defaults that are most useless. The theory is that all software is initially set to the most useful settings, it is then sent to the ministry of crap software in order that it is made as irritating as possible. Eg the word default is double spacing, no one wants that but that's the default!

Damd annoying when you work on files which need recovering by changing the extension.

Ok did file extension search.
Right clicked on file as I said open with VLC but cannot get it to play . It shows file movi 4759.avi press play nothing happens. I give up thanks for all the help
