Early May Bank Holiday 2020

The early bank Holiday next May has been moved from the usual first Monday to Friday 8th May to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day. On the news yesterday they said that hundreds of thousands of diaries and calendars had already been printed before the government announced the change. Many people may have booked holidays, weddings etc using incorrect information. What a mess. On a slightly different note a friend advised me yesterday that whenever I write the date next year I should put 2020 in full ( as in say 04/01/2020) because if I wrote 04/01/20 then an extra two numbers could be added fraudulently to change the date later on. Sounds a bit over cautious but you never know.

According to my calendar May the 4th is bank holiday in Eire, the 8th VE day in the UK and 25th is Spring bank holiday in the UK.

Same as in 2002 when the government did not confirm bank holiday dates to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee far in advance. Ridiculous arrangement.

The change was announced in June but there had been millions of calendars and diaries printed by then. Some firms pulped them but there are likely plenty out there with the wrong information.

well if you have receipt then return it to them as not fit for purpose and request a refund or replacement.

Yes the Bank Holiday was changed over 6 months ago, but the printing issue serves as an opportunity at least to remind people who missed the publicity at the time.

I suppose one could always score through the errant text and write in the proper information instead of blowing everything out of proportion, declaring holidays ruined and generally needing therapy.

Do people really use diaries still to find such information? Personally aggrieved because a Friday off work is nowhere near as psychologically pleasing as a Monday :-)

I've seen calendars with a simple solution - a sticker addes to the wrapping informing the date change.
