Roku In Spain

I'm off to Spain and Portugal later this year - both apartments have got (fast) broadband, but naff all in the way of UK TV/Radio services. I don't plan to spend much/any time watching TV, but would like the option for the occasional 'wet playtime' day.

Assuming the TV has got an HDMI socket, I could obviously connect one of these :

- but I know that most UK TV is blocked unless you fiddle with the DNS or use a VPN.

I won't necessarily have access to the router settings (and may be reluctant to fiddle with them anyway, if it's all in Iberian) - has anyone got detailed instructions of what I could do to enable iPlayer and other UK apps on the Roku itself in Spain/Portugal?

If you have fast and reliable broadband at home, think about a slingbox. Not cheap but I love mine

Sorry, Dave, it can't be done. The BBC's server will see the IP addresses of your overseas apartments and block access to iPlayer from both of them. There's no facility within a Roku box (or within any apps for it) to route your internet traffic via a UK proxy server.

All I can suggest is that you take a Windows device (laptop, netbook, etc) and install ExPat Shield:

Thanks Chris - I do have an old windows PC - but would rather use my macbook pro - I presume that expat-shield works on this too (it seems to offer an iOS download)?

You could always just download a load of programmes from iplayer and take them with you

Download the FilmOn TV app. Then you can watch the BBC , ItV etc. on your iPad free. If you have AppleTV you can take with you, you could stream onto a TV . We use FilmOn TV a lot. I have used it when South Korea, and I know it works in Spain.

Thanks 237SJ - I usually do download stuff onto my iPad before my hols - but I was hoping to also find a way to watch some of the live sport that I've paid for, but won't be home to watch.

Thanks to Samuraisan too - I'll investigate FilmOn TV as well as looking at the VPN links that Chris has given
