JJ....my love:

1)He is standing in a position whereby the attacking scrum half is about to pass to the standoff half. All lawful providing his side do not contest the ruck
2) It is all dependent on the "ruck" he can only be offside if the defence contests the ruck, if they don't, then it isn't a ruck and he can't be offside.
3) He doesn't need to make a tackle as he is cutting out one of the major moves in a rugby match which is to get the three-quarter line moving, which can't be done if the defending player is standing between the scrum half and stand off.......which is legal if there is NO ruck.

I would never ignore you my love.
It's all very technical, isn't it.

What a difference between Rugby and Football !
It takes intelligence to play rugby, JJ...in football, their brains are in the boots.
Hmm ... it's our big game tonight ... home to Newcastle.

We are meeting in the town to drink with the Magpies supporters.

JJ...I agree......rugby league is much simpler than rugby union.

Back in the 60's 70's rugby league was a much better spectator sport than Union, which, to be honest was boring. However when Union become professional and there was a change in the scoring, Union came into it's own as a spectator sport, but these rules must be changed, in my opinion.
Before your time JJ..Rugby Union was known as the "kick and clap" sport as kicking was the major and boring aspect of the code and this was clapped by the spectators.
Ahh haaaa!!

I have JJ trivia ...

There was a rugby player called Rob Andrew, who was apparently known for his kicking.

He now works along the road at Hove cricket ground.

LOL...that's all he was known for ...he was a clueless stand off half......but a nice guy, educated at public school and Cambridge, which was important in those days.
Is Hove General Hospital still open?
Actually, that doesn't sound right. I think it is. I'm not confident now.
Hove Hospital ...

Or now ...

A block of flats ...
Did you know that the collective noun for zebras is a "dazzle"?

That's what the Newcastle supporters look like.
Question Author
LOL.....I might have guessed....I have fond memories of Brighton ;-)
I was confused by this too! I think reading this post: https://atroxrugby.com/rugby-offside-rules/ will help you, as it helped me. World rugby seriously needs to make the offside rules more clear.
