Bicycle Frames.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of alloy frames on cycles. Are the better than aluminium frames ?

All bicycle frames are made from alloys. Everyday bikes are made from steel which is quite heavy. Racing bikes use various alloys which are lighter and more expensive. Some of these are aluminium alloys - aluminium itself is not strong enough. I'm sure a cyclist will be along in a moment with a more definitive answer.

aluminium is used in the more expensive bikes because it is lighter than steel and therefore = a lighter bike = less energy needed to transport it from a to b. Also because aluminium is strong (what do you think aeroplanes are made of Gef?) the frame can be made of thinner aluminium tubes = less wind resistance.

Darth, read my answer please. Aeroplanes are NOT made of aluminium - they are made from aluminium/titanium alloys (and other things). Aluminum is quite a weak metal. As for air resistance, I think the major factor is the rider.
