Don't you think it is "just" brambling, and the second 9 is a typo, probably for a bracket if typed without the shift key being pressed?

9,9 is correct and it is nothing to do with bram stoker. This person's nickname was stoker. Check dukes.

Many thanks ajforest you've saved me from several headaches this weekend! Just for my sanity is it possible to solve the Joe's pub at a place in England (3,9,4) question using only the internet or do I need the list of bird related pubs in the back of Birds Brittanica?

Just google 'A place in England' and you will find a fairly common bird. Any ideas of the Jamaica one ?

Just to clarify that none of the answers from the 100 questions on this quiz have been just a birds name like the suggestions of carrion crow and sparrow hawk. The birds name just makes up part of the answer in all the 98 questions I've answered e.g jack sparrow, kiwi fruit etc. This and the fact the links between the question and suggested answers are there but much more convoluted than any of the other 98 is why they are being doubted. The suggestions are very much appreciated so I thought I'd explain that they aren't being dismissed out of hand they just seem to not fit in this quiz.
