Anyone know the figures for the cost of asylum seekers to the UK tax payer versus the financial benefit of legal immigrants to the UK economy (I mean non-UK born people who work legally and pay taxes in the UK). Need some ammo to shoot down an anti-immigration argument.

I don't have the exact figures but it is worth bearing in mind that many asylum seekers are highly educated people (doctors, teachers, academics) who, if they are recognised as true refugees and allowed to stay in the UK, will end up in higher tax brackets when they begin working.
