Once upon a time if you walked by a building site it was loud with singing, people sang in factories & pubs. My mother used to sing when she worked around the house & we kids used to sing rhymes & silly songs.

I still encounter people who're singing. I recently heard an Asda employee singing along to the music on the in-store radio station. I asked her if there was a cover charge for the cabaret ;-) I think that I'm slightly averse to people singing in public though because my father had a nasty habit of doing it all too often. Imagine the scene: you're a 14-year-old...

sadly, naomi, I can't see Hollywood moguls going to NYC in winter; they don't do cold (except in their hearts). Try it again in warmer weather.
Thanks for the BA, Khandro.

This might give you an indication of the quality of my singing voice:

When I was in the 3rd year at junior school, we had our music lessons in the church hall across the road from the school (presumably so that we could make as much noise as possible without disturbing other classes). We had a fantastic class teacher, who fired everyone with enthusiasm, so when he told us to sing we really belted out every note.

One day though, as we were all shaking the rafters with our singing, he went carefully along the line of us all, listening intently to each of our voices. When we got to the end of the song, he said "Perhaps we could try that again, please - and this time, Christopher, I think that it might be best for everyone else if you didn't sing"

;-)
Have to admit, I'm not too keen on people singing or whistling around me. Just winds me up but then a lot of things wind me up. Maybe its just me! :o/
I had some workmates and volunteers who sang. One volunteer...a very jolly lady...was always warbling to herself, and had quite a good voice. As for whistling...I want to throw a brick at anyone who whistles. Drives me over the edge.
my 7 year old got a karaoke machine for christmas ...
