Yes. If sheer stupidity is the root cause of the injury. Lack of proper equipment and clothing (Fell walking). Engaging in any water activity without seaworthy craft and in blue water no flares, radio etc etc. Cavers who tell no one their routes destinations. Your title states 'sports or hobbies' so the argument re horse riding is academic. It can be described as both.

Thank you retrocop, though some don't seem to let facts get in the way of a good argument do they?

How can it cost so much in admin fees to deposit £50 into the Coast Guard bank account? Its a charity and all run by volunteers anyway. That's like saying don't give less than £50 to charity cos it'll all be taken up in admin.
//The cost of administering a nominal £50 charge such as you mentioned would make it almost useless.

Generally speaking my answer is, no to charging.//

Back in 1979 I had an ambulance ride after being knocked from my motorcycle by a careless driver. A few weeks later I received a bill from the L.A.S.. It was about £80 I think.
I think an ambulance callout (Paramedics and Full Kit) is about £300 per shout.
I sent the bill to my insurance company. The cost was payed by the defendant at court when answering a charge of Driving without due care.

I am insured for my sport/hobby but this only includes personal injury and third party liability. I would be happy to pay a few extra pounds a year to cover 'rescue services'.
the coast guard is not a charity, or run by volunteers! Don't let the facts get in the way tho
I was replying to your OP in general, invoices would need to be sent out and followed up if payment not forthcoming.

We all know that admin charges are higher than they need to be.

The Coastguard Rescue Service is made up of volunteers and is part of HM Coastguard.
