security, sorry it's so long...

"In continuation of our communication I would like to inform you of the following:

A) The Operating System (Windows 7) is in poor condition with almost 30,000 error log events. One solution here would be to back up all of your personal files and reinstall Windows 7. Note though that their support form Microsoft ended yesterday and no updates will be available compromising the security of the system.

B) The system;'s RAM (memory) is only 2GB with merely 356MB free. Our product needs at least 2GB free RAM in order to properly operate on a Windows 64bit System. You may try to upgrade your RAM to at least 4GB if possible.

Summing up, the system suffers from both hardware limitations and Operating System malfunctions and I am afraid we can not provide any additional assistance on the matter. You may take our advise to your local IT Support Center for further system investigation and upgrade.

Then, if Windows have been refreshed and RAM has expanded, you may install our product:
1. If there is any other Anti-Virus software installed in your system, please uninstall it via Windows Control Panel and reboot your system.
To uninstall in Windows 7:
- Click on the: Start icon (bottom left-hand side corner)
- Select “Control Panel” -> “Programs and features” or "Uninstall a program"
- Locate the Anti-Virus software, then right click on it and select uninstall. Then restart your PC.
2. Download Kaspersky Internet Security: https://www.kaspersky.co.uk/downloads/thank-you/internet-security
3. After the download is complete please run the downloaded file.
4. Follow the setup guide.
5. At the activation step type in your 20-character activation code ******* when asked.
6. Run the Update manually from the main menu and reboot your computer.
7. Optional: Click on "My Kaspersky" in the main Kaspersky window and follow on-screen instructions to connect to your "My Kaspersky Account". In this way your device will be registered in the "Devices" tab of your Account and the License in the "Licenses" tab. You can see the activation code if you click on "Details" on the right of the product entry (in "Licenses").

SlackAlice said to you on Monday //As regards Kaspersky Internet Security Suite. Have you already paid for it? If not try out Avast for free here https://www.avast.com/en-gb/for-windows It will 'nag' you occasionally to upgrade, but just ignore it and close the window. Have been using it for quite some time with no issues.//

as some on here must realise as have Kaspersky i am no technical bod, so this has me stumped as to what to do next.
Question Author
buy a new laptop with windows 10...
It is just telling you that you can't install Kapersky because your computer needs more RAM. You don't need Kapersky and if your PC suits your needs, ignore it.
Question Author
thanks, but how do i know if the pc is protected...
security wise.

Well the big issues are an old operating system aka OS, i.e. Windows 7, and a need to maximise the random access memory aka RAM on your computer. Can you update either or both ?
Question Author
have hopefully installed avast, and yes i had paid for the kaspersky 2020...
Ask them for a refund, worth a try as they have virtually said you and they aren't compatible.
Not a chance of a refund. The system requirements will be clearly stated on the product info. Caveat Emptor, I'm afraid.
Question Author
it is not the money i care about, this is the first time i have had problems with Kaspersky.
I know that Zacs but it has never stopped me asking.
2GB of RAM by today’s standards is not huge but it seems an extraordinary amount for a virus checker to use.
It sounds as though the AV you are using is OTT for your needs
Millions of people still run Windows 7 and will do so for some time,
Follow their instructions to uninstall it. And then, as others have suggested, download something cheaper or free or lightweight.
Question Author
should i uninstall all kaspersky programmes...
If you solve this, you still might want to consider getting a new computer that has a higher spec, ie more RAM and the latest windows already installed.
Question Author
i have solved it in so far as not needing kaspersky, as i have downloaded Avast free security.. and i am not about to shell out 500 quid, when this is still usable.
should as i said uninstall all Kaspersky...
