Why Does Windows 10 Keep Crashing
14 Answers
Just got a new computer with windows 10 pre installed. I've had more crashes in a week than I had in 20 years with previous versions. It doesn't matter what I'm doing.Today it's Word. I type away for 5 minutes or so and it freezes. I've got to close down Word and restart it. I'm at the stage that i'm going to File Save every 2 minutes. Can anyone tell me whats happening or what programs I can safely delete from the computer. I use it for internet searches.Word, games and very little else.OH .There's 8gb ram and 1tb hard drive.
thank you in advance

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Windows 10 doesn't "keep crashing", at least not for me on 3 different machines. When you say crashes....do you mean needs to be rebooted or loses the internet connection? You obviously have plenty of system capacity so I would not be looking there. You say it was "pre installed". Is the supplier one of our known and trusted web or High St retailers? Are there any error messages that accompany these "crashes"?
According to users, random computer freezing usually appears after Windows 10 update. And the reason might be incompatibility of hardware and drivers. To correct it, just update all device drivers. Select Windows Update in the left pane and click "Check for updates"(make sure you have an active Internet connection).
if it is " new " return it to the store unless it was from online let them sort it out
as togo says ive had windows since the 95 version on wards and xp and 10 are the best ever, i never have any problems but i do keep in good maintenance, (and i use windows built in security along side malwarebytes)

Hi guys, I bought the computer from John Lewis department store. When I'm on the internet it seems to behave itself.Yesterday and today and several times in the past I can't type in the "type here to search" box. No curser shows. In "settings" search box "eventvwr" can't be recognised. I use Firefox.
When I'm typing in "Word" the curser stops and the page fades then disappears. It doesn't minimise to the bottom of the screen. When I "ctrl alt del" it isn't there either.
I then have to restart Word but when I try to open the file I was working on it says"Locked for editing" so I have to restart the computer to get back to the Word doc I was working on. Just a thought...I'm typing this and don't have a problem.Could it be my Office suite is faulty. One regular happening is sometimes my screensaver works and other times it doesn't. It narrows like a barcode and I've got to restart the computer to access my progs.
On re-reading this I think I need a guru to help me out :-)

Ahh you're back Zingo. :))
That does not sound like an operating system problem, particularly since you got it at John Lewis. Now you say that it is a "computer" is this a desktop or a laptop or a tablet. Do you have a separate keyboard and mouse? Does the problem persist if you use the Edge browser(you say you are using Firefox.....why? ) I would also try the new Edge Beta browser that has now been released. You could uninstall then reinstall Word/Office but firstly have a read through some of these replies to give you a clue where to look.
P.S If you are using a wireless mouse change the batteries.
