The question was a very fair one. But it ignores the realities of world trade, in particular free trade. Which is all about buying and selling stuff not necessarily on the basis of need but on the basis of (reasonable) self interest in ones own economy.
Some commodities have unique selling points: it may be that a country is the only or one of the few to make something. Or it might be recognised as having the best in the world of something.
With chicken I’d suggest that isn’t the case. No one thinks we need to buy chicken from the US (or any other specific country) not that it’s particularly great. It’s just that now the Americans see a chance to sell stuff to us they couldn’t before.
And vice versa
