Hello, me again

I work part-time and am in my last year of uni. At first my boss was saying that she was not going to accommodate my uni hours and I would have to work my shifts regardless of if they clashed or not.

Since then, I have told my employer the days and times I have to be at uni - these times do not clash with the hours I have to be at work, but she has still changed my hours of work, can she do this? I really enjoyed my hours I had before but now she is making me work most evenings and weekends (she wants part-timers working weekends opposed to full-timers.

Can anyone tell me my rights?

If you have a contract of appointment, take a look at it. I would expect her to be within her rights to change your hours. Could you perhaps negotiate alternate weekends off? Or find a friend to job-share with you and live on half the money? Your boss probably doesn�t want to lose an intelligent worker. Before resigning, take a trip to your local Job centre to see if there is a job that would suit you better.

I had a boss just like that when I was at uni. This job is for right now, uni is for the rest of your life... seriously, you need a new job. You don't have a 'right' to pick and choose your hours however much that may be really unfair. As you are a student, you can't even claim constructive dismissal as in the eyes of the law you are not dependent on a job until you are out of education.

I eventually gave up on the rotten boss and got some great jobs temping - you negotiate the hours you want and the money's usually better than you would get in a permanent job.
