Early 1960S Book

Long shot. Before 1964 I borrowed a book at random from the local library. It was the funniest book I have ever read. It starts with the main character in bed with his wife. He is due to go to jail the following day. In desperation he tries to manoeuvre his sleeping wife into position for sex. She wakes up and tells him not to be so stupid. I know the author's name starts with a W and thought it was Westlake but I cannot find an author by this name other than Donald. And it does not appear to be him. Does anyone have any ideas please?
