How To Curry Favour With A Customer ;-)

Sounds like the police should have arrested currys staff for wasting their time.

Currys PC World are well-known for their appalling customer service.
If you take a laptop in for repair they charge you a flat fee of £60, even if it only takes them 30 seconds to fix the problem. Further, if they can't immediately see what's causing a problem, they have a nasty habit of simply wiping the hard drive and reinstalling Windows (even when it's actually totally unnecessary to do so) as it's a 'quick fix' for them. However that means that the customer loses all their documents, images, videos and other files, often without even being warned that it will happen.
I returned a malfunctioning printer to them a few months ago and, like the customer in the news item, I was refused a replacement item and told that I'd have to wait at least 28 days for a repair to be carried out. It was only after I kicked up a big fuss that I eventually got them to refund my money (so that I could then buy exactly the same model of printer from them again). At least they didn't call Pc Plod though ;-)
