Hey there,
I've started a business in my house itself. Its run by my wife, she sells cakes, pastries and savories baked at home. I'm working in an IT firm, so when i'm at home I help her with the accounts. We have taken the home insurance from a known insurance and financial services (https://www.wbwhite.com/) but should I take take separate commercial insurance?

As far as I know you must have public liability insurance. I am assuming you know that you must by law register your home as a commercial food premises with your local councils health department before you start any food production, so as it can be inspected and given permission, or not.
You definitely need public liability insurance to cover you against any potential allegen claim or food poisoning for example. You shoud also look at small business insurance to cover your home being used as a business and the additional equipment you might have for it.

There s a useful factsheet here of all the other proceedures you should take regarding food safety etc, if it helps.

She will also have to inform the tax office to register herself as self employed if she hasn't already done this and the local council will need to know that she is using her home as business premises.
