And her films with people like Frank Sinatra and Rock Hudson, I said to my OH how Rock Hudson was drop dead gorgeous , we discussed the fact he died HIV positive , I said I can honestly say I’d never the word p**f , gay or any such label as a teen growing up in the 60s ,nor did I know about drugs and had never been offered them, and this was the ‘ liberated ‘ decade

Homosexuality got mentioned in English Literature classes at our grammar school (1964 to 1971) but not really elsewhere.

However you could easily get stoned from the smell of cannabis just by walking past the windows of our 6th form common room ;-)

Chris I did go to Amsterdam many, many years later and walked past a ‘ cafe’ and got my first whiff of what was cannabis , haha
I Always thought that Rock Hudson personified the perfect male specimen. I was quite surprised to find that he was gay.
You never can tell. I was also a teen in the sixties and only ever had one strange dropout pointed out to me as a drug user, a person to be avoided. How times change.

It wasn't a 'café' then. It was a 'coffee shop'.

There was a huge amount of repression and shame associated with being gay even in the 60's Bobby. Up until 1967 it was still an offence to be homosexual and only during the liberated decade did things begin to change.
i knew about drugs early on as both brothers took them, uppers and downers, cannabis, amongst other things.
i didn't and don't indulge ever.

I certainly felt change in the summer of ‘ 67 with flower power, and heard ‘new words’ like LSD but never encountered anyone who actually took it
Did you know she was always filmed through a gauze filter, because of her bad complexion? (you are right about the late great,though)

Sadly I had a wild teenage years.
Good at the time but regret it now.
