Rosewood Furniture.

We have a Chinese rosewood cabinet that we wanted to sell. We went to an auctioneer’s today to investigate and they said that we need a certificate to sell rosewood furniture. They said that they would come out to certify the cabinet but it would cost about £500! Is this true? Bramley.

OG if its like ivory, you have to be able to prove the age of your object...the cut off point appears to be 1947 and the material needs to be "worked" ie not a lump of wood....

Bramley if you are asking if it will cost £500 to have someone come out to certify it then I suggest you ring round and try and find someone cheaper. Have a chat to a couple of your local antique shops. I have had excellent advice from one near me many years ago that saved me a lot of money, Good luck.
