why does it take 31 days to cancel sky

Because you signed a contract which specifies 31 days notice.

There contracts are al one sided. I have a contract with BT running until 31 august as well. I phone to cancel as there is no more tennis or British speedway . I have no interest in Football. they have now foisted WWE Wrestling o their sports channel. this is not sport and should be on the Entertainment channel. So what I subscribed to has now gone. They said if you cancel now you will have to pay a penalty so I sad cancel on aug 31 then . You cannot cancel until within 31 days of your contract date. What sort of contracts are these

Gollob, did you receive written notice of the change to your sport service? If so you had the right to cancel within 30 days of receiving that notice claiming that you have been materially disadvantaged

If you go to the BT site to choose a package, it's pretty clear that it's a 24 month contract.

it takes about 10 seconds but you have to give 31 days notice.

BARRY I spoke to them but they were not interested. my contract was for one year at £12.99 per month. the fourth month in went up to £17.99 and is now £18.99 and now due to go up again After complaining they said the HD was free only for the first 3 months which I never asked for in the first place. Basically most Broadband and satellite companies are very economic with the truth.

BT and Sky have to do drastic things in order to pay the silly money for football rights that they agreed to.

When they notify you of the next increase (provided it is not part and parcel of the initial agreement eg half price for three months) then you have the right to cancel with one month's notice even if you are still under contract. This refers to broadband but it applies to your situation, too
