Hypothetically, if the Covid19 virus that is currently doing the rounds was engineered, who would be the main culprits and to what ends?

Like, maybe China itself would engineer a virus that mainly attacks old and vulnerable people but leaves healthy folk largely unaffected.

Or perhaps America would engineer it so as to have a way to explain the inevitable oncoming recession that is now occurring.

Has anyone any thoughts. Hypothetically speaking, if course.
