Are newspapers carriers of the virus ?

There might be a theoretical risk of transmission from, say, the newsagent to the customer by the virus making contact with the paper but it must be incredibly low.

The chemotherapy unit at my local hospital (where all of the patients will have almost no immunity to any type of disease, even without Covid-19 to worry about) was still making daily newspapers available for patients to share when I was there the other day.

I reckon anything could be for a short while but warm dry surfaces aren't known for sustaining the virus too long; plus one has to ask what are the chances they get infected, and once infected what chance you get and transfer the virus to mouth, nose, eye, whatever. You could scare yourself to death worrying about highly unlikely ways to catch it.

Maybe you could put it in the freezer for 24 hours- or maybe in a warm oven- to kill off the virus. I'm not sure if that works.
Better to wash your hands afterwards and avoid touching face/hands.

I seem to remember from my days in the Scouts (60 years ago) that newspaper was considered to be sterile and was suitable as an emergency cover for open wounds.
