Walked to my local Lidl yesterday to try and buy just 2 things - mayonnaise and milk!! Yes I’m easily pleased lol. Not only were all the shelves stripped bare, but customers were walking about wearing these mad face masks. It was quite a surreal experience. What’s it like where you are??
Yesterday I visited Lidl and 3 seperate Farm Foods in search of the elusive toilet roll. Non to be had, other items were available (and not a face mask in sight)
Nailit, try little corner shops, they seem to have avoided the panic buyers. Ours has everything except eggs and sanitiser, but they did tell me they are keeping stock in a back room for regular pensioner customers.
Rowan, tried a couple of my local corner shops and they have had none as well all though they have had plenty of milk and bread when the big shops have ran out. It's madness.
Face masks are understandable if the shopper is living with or looking after somebody who is seriously ill, or has an illness but nobody to do their shopping for them.
I was in my local Tesco at about 0640 this morning (having had to abort a trip to the one 10 miles down the road at 0430 when I found out that all Tesco stores are now closed between 2200 and 0600).
There were very long queues at all of the tills but there were no signs of frustration among the shoppers. I managed to get a pack of nine toilet rolls and a jumbo kitchen roll but there was no dried pasta on the shelves.
This morning Waitrose was busy but fully stocked.....loo roll, hand wash, even hand gel (made in France and limited to 2 per customer).
Eggs, however, low stocks...
I heard on the radio this morning that now Sainsburys will be open for the first hour, just for pensioners too, no doubt all the other big supermarkets will do the same thing soon too.
I went to my local Tesco last Friday in Thornton Heath and loads of people had trolleys stacked full of loo roll, bottles of water, pasta etc., and many people were wearing masks as well. It was about 9.30am and the till queues were all the way up the aisles.
Sainsbury's in Croydon didn't fair any better yesterday at 7.20am...
I went to my Iceland, got loo rolls and eggs. Not a lot of those on the shelves, though they were restocking in some sections. The atmosphere was nice and calm.
Outside, some folks were in a huff because they werent allowed in yet. One guy kept having a go at the security guard. I despair sometimes.
