Sd Cards For Storing Music From Cds
8 Answers
Hi guys, hope you're staying safe and well. I would be grateful for some advice please. I want to get some SD cards which will be suitable for downloading music from CDs. Our soon to be new car doesn't (surprise surprise) have a CD slot, so we need to change the way we listen to our music when travelling in the car. Can I buy any SD card, e.g. t he type that is used in a digital camera? Or are there specific SD cards which should be used for downloading music. HOpe you can help, many thanks, cheers, Chox.

My music files are saved on to the card as MP3 files. My car SD slot can read both MP3 and AAC from my Apple iTunes library.
I'm always changing the music and albums on the SD Card for my car.

Thanks for the advice, folks .... it's all very helpful. We don't listen to music on our phone at all, so won't be using that. But will hold fire from buying an SD card until we get the car and see the handbook. We're also hoping (and we're sure it will) that the car will have a USB port so we can listen to music downloaded onto our memory sticks. Am not at all sure if the new car will have a CD slot, will have to wait until next week to see! Thanks guys, your help is greatly appreciated. Best wishes, Chox. And stay safe everyone!
Thanks again everyone for all your advice, it's much appreciated. Tomorrow's the day when we (hopefully) get the new car - Covid19 permitting! so hopefully we will find out which SD we need to get and whether or not there's a CD slot. And I will definitely only get a proper SanyDisk card - nothing else will do! Cheers again, stay safe everyone. Cheers, Chox.
Hi Chokkie
My current car only has a usb facility, and it has driven me nuts. I`m no Luddite but prefer to have a CD player for simplicity as I also make my own for the car. The problem that no-one talks about is file management for SD / USB to this day no infotainment system will accept flac files let alone hi-res flac files which is madness as it is only a small codec to include!
So, now also most cards / sticks are formatted with NTFS which is fine if the system allows that, I have to format mine to exFat to play anything, which is the most preferred for multiple files which are constantly written / rewritten according to experts! But occasionally especially if you have made your own folder with different tracks it goes into meltdown and repeats the same track or hides the file altogether.
As I said this has been a nightmare, so much so I have actually bought a new car myself (delivery hopefully this week) and I made sure it has a CD player (also plays wav and mp3 files) but also has 2x usb inputs so fingers crossed will suit my needs.
Sandisk are the SD of choice, but you dont have to go mad on the size, an 8gb or 16gb will be more than enough otherwise if you put a 32gb with hundreds of tracks you will be forever searching for something!
Enjoy your new car, sounds like you are getting a VW or Seat
