Is It Better To Have The Room Temperature Hotter Or Cooler To Beat Covid 19.

Two of the managers at work are at odds over this. One is insisting on all the windows open and heating switched off whilst in the other office they have got the room temp slightly higher than usual at 27 degrees.
(I know which room I’d rather be working in!!)
Does anybody know which is better or does room temperature really make any difference.

Neither makes much difference.

Ambient temperature in itself will not dictate whether you become infected or not. It will however be significant in the progress of the disease - too cold and you risk making things worse. The medical benefits of feeling/being cold are an old invention to promote saving on heating, it has no foundation in medicine (people usually put on more clothing anyway to overcome it and feel warmer again).

the virus can tolerate up to 60c apparently so good luck with going hot! Normal human habitable temperature ranges will not affect the virus.

I used to keep my workplace at icebox temp to stop people hanging around too long. That’s one way to stop the virus spreading.

It won't make a lot of difference. To have a workplace at 27C is stupid. Before I retired, we never had our R and D Office and labs above 20C, while the other offices were like saunas.

I understood the warm weather reduces the spread/impact of the virus but this is more to do with sunlight, which is why I thought the stay at home policy would suggest spending time on your own in the garden

I'm working in my conservatory which is like a fridge until about 10am, gets comfortable for a couple of hours then becomes a sauna from 2pm. Any viruses in here will have no idea what's going on!
