New Shed

I was just wondering if my handyman could get hold of a new shed for me, would he be allowed in the present crisis to fit this for me. He is self employed so it would help him out financially and also I need the work done. He wouldn.t have to come in the house and I can transfer money straight to his bank account. Any advice would be appreciated

The official ruling is that tradesmen can attend clients' properties in order to deal with emergencies (such as a burst pipe) but not for any other purposes.

Problem is he's highly unlikely to be able to get hold of a new shed.

Current advice is not to go out unless it is essential or you are a keyworker, don't think shed fitting fits into either of those.

^^^ Good point, APG. The garden centres, et al, that sell sheds should all be closed at the moment.

I spoke to him this afternoon and he would be willing to do it but he doesn;t think he would be able to get one. Just thought as he would be working in garden there wouldn;t be any problem health wise At the moment he is just costing it and we will probably decide against it/ I don;t want to get him into trouble I just thought it would help him out

Sounds like a no-no. If you want to help him out, could you not pay him in advance (or at least a deposit). This would put you at the front of the queue when it's all back to normal. Would he be amenable ?

If he is self employed, he should have some money put away for a rainy day. My partners self employed hairdresser and friend has enough to see her through for 3 months to pay her salon rent.

Thanks for all your advice. Have just texted my handyman and he is just going to give me an idea of prices etc but we are leaving the actual work until if and when we are back to normal

Pleased you've decided to wait. We are in lockdown and even if he were to have no contact with you, he shouldnt be going out unless its for essential supplies, just like the rest of us.
