I’m reading ‘Washington Black’ the rather fantastical but gritty account of a Caribbean slave. I’m also reading How to be an F1 driver by Jenson Button as a complete contrast.
Blott On The Landscape too Margaret. I was reading that during the blazing hot summer of 76 and the sweat rolling off my daft head used to blind me I laughed so much.
I'm reading Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell - wonderful stuff. We ch chapter is set in a different time and place but there is a connection between them. Then I'm going to read the last of the Hilary Mantel trilogy The Mirror and The Light.
Pasta - I agree with you about Elizabeth Strout - and loved Olive Kitteridge.
I have 3 books 'on the go', all on Kindle. My bedtime read at the moment is 'Everything's Eventual', a book of short stories from the magic pen of Stephen King. My 2 daytime reads are; 'Run And Hide' by Alan McDermott (crime) and 'The Sure Thing; The Greatest Coup In Racing History' by Nick Townsend, detailing a masterful sting on the bookies by the legend that is Barney Curley. Legend in the horse-racing world, that is.
Barnaby Rudge

Z-M, I read Washington Black (by Esi Edugyon) last year and enjoyed it, though the contrast between Wash's life as a slave and the adventure of travel round America and to the Arctic was stark.
