How can I discourage squirrels from my garden, particularly a small outbuilding in which they nest?

Squeeze their nuts
You'd think the sarcastic answers would have gotten annoying by now...

But vicx, why would you want to evict such interesting visitors to your garden? There are many things you can set up to provide food and challenge for the squirrels - it's mesmerising to watch them climb up posts and scuttle across rope to reach the food.

If the squirrels are causing serious, expensive damage, however, I'm sure there is someone here who has experience in deterring them.
Catching the wind would be a lot simpler than trying to discourage these engaging little creatures, but I agree they can be a nuisance especially en masse and the only solution that might work is an ultrasonic device - the kind used solely for squirrels

Getting them out of an outbuilding is probably a job for a rodent specialist which I imagine would be expensive....then being contrary little things I expect they would soon be back. The ultrasonic device is perhaps your best bet. Good luck!

Vicx A pal of mine had similar probs. As Cetti suggests try the ultra sonic device, use a mains adaptor rather than batteries and don't leave it on all the time - he found they started to ignore the noise then! He had to turn it on from indoors when they appeared. It also helped him get shot of a family of mice nesting in the garage [after they'd chewed thru the wiring loom of the car!]
Lots of cayenne pepper!
