Toothache

I had toothache early April and the doctor prebscribed me antibiotics, and the pain subsided, but today its started niggling me again, do you think I will be prescribed antibiotics again, or will it need to be sorted by a dentist, if that is possible of course.

I’ve had the same all last week.
Fortunately I had a bottle of penicillin tablets the dentist gave me last time it happened, as we go away a lot, and I’ve been taking them for six days, along with extreme flossing. Thankfully it’s all subsided.
If it was me, I’d get a telephone consultation with my gp, explain the situation, and ask for antibiotics again.

I thought usually when a dentist gives you antibiotics for toothache it's to sort out an infection (abscess) but that has to be followed by treatment on the tooth whether it be filling, removal or root canal work once the infection had settled down. Was that not mentioned at the time? Sounds like the infection has come back.

Mine happens on a recent bridge/crown and the dentist says it can happen from time to time. Last time, about 18 months ago, it sorted it out almost immediately without any further treatment.
But that’s just me.

I had an X-ray which determined there was no abscess.

I'm not sure it is an abcess and wont know without an xray, I had a crown fitted which was quite high in my mouth, the dentist filed it down and it was fine for a while although, it's still a bit high, and (I used to not so sure I do now), grind my teeth in my sleep, and I am wondering if its aggravating the nerve.

Prudie, it was the doctor who prescribed the antibiotics early April as I couldn't get hold of the dentist by phone.

I am also a teeth grinder and wonder if that’s what set mine off again.
Anyhow, whatever you decide to do, good luck. Last thing we need in these trying times it bloody toothache!
