Simply to help me understand and satisfy my curiosity. There is a game that has millions of players hosted on many servers. My question is: are players assigned to a server and forever log on to that server or is it random?

Or doesn't it work like that at all?

it would be random, depending on overload to a server, your question asks a question, why are you interested.

I am asking because a fellow player lost her game and had it restored. She asked on a game forum why they were unable to restore her friends and team members. One of the answers said the game must have been restored to a different server with different players. I wondered if the explanation was correct
