i am looking to save £100 a month into an AVC, my employer has advised they use Standard Life & Clerical Medical.

How do i know which is the best to use? Any tips or suggestions would be really helpful thanks

You could ask what the charges are and then get some other quotes. But if the employer has a link up with SL&CM I'd use them as the employer would do the admin and may have negotiated a bulk fee rate
