Hi
I have just purchased a fish tank that has a 40 litre water capacity and am trying to find a suitable stand or cabinet to sit it on. For that I need to know the weight of tank when full with water. I have found a coffee table that has a weight limit of 25 kg but not sure if strong enough.
Thanks

No it isn't a unit with an internal divider will even out the weight , using gravel will push the weight well over 50 kg and that doesn't include the weight of a lid

Easy at normal temperature one litre of water weighs one kilogram
No, it's not strong enough. Ideally, you want a steel stand.

40 ltrs = roughly just under 9 gallons. 1 gallon of water weighs 10lbs. So you want to have a support of at least 100lbs +. To allow for extra stuff you put in the tank.

Thanks for all your answers. Good job I never bought the coffee table.
I'm sure this has been aske d before and was answered.
50 litres of water weighs 40kg (give or take a few grams as temperature changes).
Then add the weight of the tank.
I doubt you need to include the weight of the fish unless it's a high density shark.
So the table may not be strong enough
Typo - 40 litres. All others figures are unchanged
Ah- I was thinking of this puzzling question from a few weeks ago, but clearly that wasn't you

Pure water weighs one kilogram per litre at 4 degrees Celsius which is chosen because it is the temperature where it has maximum density.

The difference at room temperature is very slight. It weighs 997 grams at 25 degrees.

What if it cools down, and you’ve specifically bought something to cope with the weight, and it collapses!
// Easy at normal temperature one litre of water weighs one kilogram//

yup - BA for rowan
metric system was designed like that

purists complain, no really, that the basic unit of mass - kilogram, should be a unit - and not a kilo-unit
such is scientific

I never cd decide how many liters in a cu metre
( 1000 in case you wondered)

none of this
a pint of clear water
wezza pound and a quarter
billox
// and you’ve specifically bought something to cope with the weight,//

easy - kilogram is a unit of mass and not of weight
ter daaah

yup on der moon, a kilgram - - will weigh less !
16% of what it weighs on earth

unit of force which shd be used, to weigh is Newton ( force exerted on erf by a kilogram is around 10 newtons ) but every one - naughty boys - uses
kg force
no soch ting

when I started - 1980 - a cape wain ventilator - looked a bit like an iron lung - was calibrated in
kg-force/ sq in !!
yikes - we were pretty mixed up in those days
