Pleased I married an ex military fella who can iron, cook ,clean and wash :0)

I'm cooking more since lockdown, made a lovely sausage casserole yesterday with plenty left over for today. Going shopping in a minute, think I'll buy some ingredients and make a cake!

I made a coffee and walnut cake yesterday,‘‘twas a disaster :0(

made a chocolate sponge but couldn't get icing sugar so put fresh whipped double cream and raspberries in the filling lovely x

before lock down my sponges were a disaster but I've been using packet mixes x

I made a batch of homemade scotch eggs yesterday, something I usually can't be bothered to faff on with but can't eat the shop bought ones as I'm gluten intolerant. Farm eggs , Heck gluten free sausage meat and gluten free breadcrumbs OMG they are gorgeous but like cannon balls I think I got carried away with the sausage meat layer lol

To Margie I put the mix in a double tin and realised the cooking time was for two 8inch round ones so it was gooey inside , in the bin it went :0(

You should have just covered the top with baking paper and cooked it for longer.

Yes I know now BM, Mr Bs scones ( sounds like gone( s) ) here , they’re lovely, I might delegate home economics to him now :0)

The RAF trained mine, thank you them :0) although he wasn't on the catering side , more groundwork fixing aircraft

I think most blokes in the various services were taught to be self sufficient.We had rudimentary cooking lessons on the parade square with some billys and primus stoves. When we went out on orienteering exercises we drew out the samed Irish stew tins which were branded Tom Pipers.Processed Tinned peas and potatoes. What with tents,tins and primus the kit weighed a ton. Then came MRE which was far better. Just add water.We even got issued with hussifs. I can't knit though. :-( We had to fold our sheets and blankets into a jam roly poly called bed packs as well. No duvets then.

I'll vouch for that Bobbi!Mr J2 started life in the merchant navy and then, when he left in the early '50s he did military service. Perfectly capable of looking after himself, but I hate ironing, so he does it, and I'm a better cook. Having said that, when he first invited to me for his house for lunch he dished up lovely, home-made leek & potato soup. I'm better with a needle and thread, too - but he does the vacuuming. We're very well-balanced and I wouldn't swap him - unless he criticises my leek & potato soup!

It also instilled discipline in men , I remember my own Dad ( RAF) telling my brother “ you went in the army as a lad ( teddy boy actually) and you came out a man “

Aww that's a shame Bobbi, my Victoria sponge is cooling as we speak. Got strawberry jam for the filling. Pity I've got to eat it all myself (ah well)!!
