Had a knock at the door yesterday and a lady was organising an 11am 2min silence on the street and then 4pm street party. The party will involve everyone celebrating VE day in their front gardens with their own food and drink.

Wouldn't mind the silence bit.
I'd want to avoid both, but I'd have appreciated the early warning!
I did the silence alone in my garden at 1100 but it definitely wasn't silent, I heard music blaring, a lawnmower running, someone trying to start a car and definitely people talking.
I was in the park with my dog, so couldn't do it anyway. Very busy in the park.
My BIL, in Manchester, sent us a photo of his house decked out in bunting along with the rest of the street's houses. They are also having a party in their front garden.I suppose they have a community spirit as ,through thick and thin, they have always been in 'it' together. They all must of bought their new houses together and several years back they had flood water up to their bedroom window sills. Good luck to them. They deserve a pleasant break. Puts our London street to shame in comparison.
We had a little party with our granddaughter at home. Went for a walk out before & it was lovely to see a couple of streets decked out with bunting & everyone having a good time .. and still mostly keeping a social distance either in there front gardens or at their own gates.
I was fast asleep in bed this morning. (I'm semi nocturnal anyway but my chemotherapy gives me insomnia too, so I'm happy to grab some sleep whenever I can).

However I was woken by loud applause out in the street and felt utterly confused as I was sure that it was Friday morning, rather than Thursday evening. A glance at my watch though showed the time to be 1102, so I assume that someone must have decided that silences now have to be followed by applause.
