I am having problems with a passive infra red security light. On the Lux setting they give 3 choices,3 or 30,or 300 Lux. Does anyone know which is best to set it to so it comes on when its darkish Thanks

At the 300 lux setting the light will come on when the lighting level is roughly equivalent to that in, say, your kitchen when it's lit only by artificial lighting (i.e. when it's very easy to see). 300 will mean it only comes on when it’s pitch dark.

At the 30 lux setting it should come on when you'd be struggling to read a book with that level of lighting but you can stil easily see what's going on around you.

At the 3 lux setting it should come on when it's almost totally dark.

Set it to '30' and, if necessary, adjust it later!

Haven't you got that the wrong way round, Z-M? If the 'trigger level' is 300 lux that means that the lamp will turn on when it's still quite bright, surely?
You could be right
Trial and error would be the way I would choose and, as Chris says, start from the middle and try the others to go the way you want to. I am surprised that there are just three distinct settings, I have only seen a continuous range from "low" to "high" (actually mostly just + to - or a couple of symbols meaning something similar).
